LET THE TIGER DIE. Original Dustwrapper Artwork.

An original study for the dustwrapper of Manning Coles' 1948 Tommy Hambledon thriller 'Let the Tiger Die'. Gouache and pencil on artists board. Signed Bip Pares within the image and with the artist's ink stamp to the reverse. Measuring 187 x 267mm. In good condition, some light marks and a little rubbing to the board edges. This illustration was not adopted for the first edition although the lettering was. Together with a very good first edition of the book, original cloth in dustwrapper with a few small nicks and tears.

Ethel 'Bip' Pares (1904-1977), best known for her British art-deco style, illustrated over 600 book dustwrappers for a variety of publishers during her career in addition to posters and brochures for London Transport. Her work is very collectable.
