First UK edition, first printing. Publisher's original orange cloth with black titles to the spine, in the Leslie Stead illustrated dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping at the spine tips, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, spotted to the endpapers and closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed and nicked, price-clipped dustwrapper that tiny chips at the fold corners and a couple of small pieces of tape to the underside.
The last of four novels to feature the ex-Army officer and good friend of Hercule Poirot, Colonel Race. (Hubin; Wagstaff & Poole; Curran, John: The Hooded Gunman).
