First separate UK edition, first printing. Original white cloth with gilt medallion to upper board and titles to the spine, no dustwrapper. Illustrated with 15 full-page colour plates by F. H. Townsend. A very good copy, the binding firm with a slight lean to the spine, some soiling to the cloth, and a small stain to the gilt medallion. The contents, with a neat previous owner's inscription to the front free endpaper, foxing to the endpapers and half title, and a little light spotting to the text block top edge, are otherwise clean throughout.
