THE BUTTERFLY BALL AND THE GRASSHOPPER'S FEAST

First edition, first printing. Signed by the illustrator Alan Aldridge. Original laminated illustrated boards. Issued without a dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in colour by Aldridge. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the spine tips lightly rubbed and the laminate separated in a thin strip on each spine hinge, where it is split to the top and bottom of the front hinge. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps.

Inscribed by Alan Aldridge in blue ink on the flyleaf "For Jonathan / Hope you enjoy / the Book / Best Wishes / A R Aldridge / DEC 1973 [underlined]". A wonderful book of verse written by William Plomer, loosely based on William Roscoe's poem of the same name, featuring an eccentric host of insects and small mammals as they prepare to go to a ball, lavishly illustrated by Aldridge. There are nature notes by Richard Fitter at the rear, which give a little information on each of the species featured in the book.
