TRAGEDIE DI VITTORIO ALFIERI

Early collected edition. Four volumes bound in two. 12mo. Contemporary half brown pebble grain morocco with five raised bands and titles in gilt to the spines. Green cloth boards. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Text in Italian. Four illustrated title pages engraved by Cominotti, two in each volume. In very good condition, the bindings square and firm with light wear to the spine tips and corners, the boards rubbed and marked. Small patch of fraying to the top edge of the upper board of volume two. The contents, with a neat gift inscription dated Christmas Day 1875 to the front blank of volume one, a very faint damp stain to the upper margin of some pages in volume two (not affecting the text), and the occasional foxing spot, are otherwise clean and bright.

A collection of all twenty-two tragedies by the Italian dramatist and poet Alfieri Vittorio (1749-1803), three of which 'Abele Tramelogedia', 'Le Due Alcesti' and 'Cleopatra Tragedia' were first published posthumously.
