First editions. Four volumes. Signed by the illustrator in two volumes. Finely bound by Morrell for Sotherans in full crushed green morocco, the upper and lower boards ruled in gilt, board edges gilt. The spines with five raised bands, gilt ruled compartments and titles in gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Postcard of A. A Milne, Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh bound in to the front of 'Winnie the Pooh'. Publisher's original blue, green, red and orange cloth bound in at the rear of each book. Original pictorial endpapers retained and bound into the front of each book (the endpapers for the first edition of When We Were Very Young were issued blank, so the binder here has included illustrated endpapers from Winnie The Pooh. Illustrated throughout in black and white by Ernest Howard Shepard. A near fine set, the bindings square and firm, with light even fading to the spines of all four volumes, the boards a little marked with a touch of rubbing to the hinges. The contents, lightly toned to the pictorial endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.

Signed and dated (July 1970) by Ernest Howard Shepard in blue ink on the title pages of 'Now We Are Six' and 'The House at Pooh Corner'. The contents page in 'When We Were Very Young' is in the corrected state, numbered 'ix'. An attractive set of A. A Milne's and E. H. Shepard's classic Winnie the Pooh books.
