Original quarter vellum with orange cloth-covered boards, titles in gilt to the spine and a gilt motif to the upper board. Illustrated in black and white with a fold-out map, a fold-out frontispiece, and five further illustrations. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the velum and cloth with some light discolouration, the edges a little rubbed and a slight bump to the bottom corner of the lower board. Without the silk page marker. The contents, with some offsetting and spotting to the endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout.
Signed by N. M. Penzer in black ink on the half title. The first English translation of an anonymous account of a Spanish 1792 expedition to what is now British Columbia, describing the geography, flora, fauna and the indigenous people that they came across, as well as an encounter with an English expedition led by George Vancouver.
