First edition, first printing. Original red cloth with silver titles to the spine and a silver illustration on the upper board, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and black and white line drawings throughout by D. L. Mays. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little rubbing and bumping at the extremities. The contents, with a contemporary ownership inscription on the front free endpaper, and some spotting to the prelims and closed text block edges, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the correct rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has some small chips at the head of the faded spine. Not price-clipped (7s. 6d. on the front flap).
A very loose sequel to 'Ballet Shoes' - though the now grown-up Fossil sisters never appear in person, they provide stage school scholarships and exchange letters with the Forbes children, the novel's main characters. The novel was later published in America under the title 'Theatre Shoes' to link it to the popularity of 'Ballet Shoes', a treatment given to a number of Streatfeild's novels.
