First edition. Early binding by Bayntun of Bath in blue ridged calf with five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments, and titles in gilt to the spine. Gilt ruled and decorated borders to the upper and lower boards. Marbled endpapers, gilt decorated inner dentelles and board edges. All edges gilt. With two silk ribbons page markers. The gilt decorated original bright purple cloth bound in at the rear. Illustrated with 8 hand coloured full page plates, tissue guard to the frontispiece, and 92 black and white engravings throughout the text, by Alfred Crowquill. A better than very good copy, the binding square, sharp, and firm, with very slight rubbing to the spine tips and hinges and board edges. The contents, with some very light foxing throughout, are otherwise clean and free of previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. A beautifully bound example of this very scarce title.
Containing nine moral fairy tales: Heinrich; Peter Finnigan and the Spirits; Shireen; Hassan; Condy Cullen and the Colt; Almeed; Prince Perin; Egotism; Time, and his Lesson.
