First edition in book form. Publisher's original brown cloth, blind stamped decoration to the upper and lower boards, with titles and decorated compartments in gilt to the spine. Royal 8vo. pp. (4), 400, [11], [1, blank]. Pictorial engraved title page, 15 aquatint plates, 1 etching, 2 maps (one of which is folding), all hand coloured. List of plates to the rear as called for. A very good copy, the binding firm and square with some rubbing, bumping and fraying to the corners, the original chipped spine cloth relaid. Inner hinges repaired. All plates present as called for, the text with the occasional finger mark or small paper repair or nick to the margin.

(Abbey, Travel 166). Abbey states only nine of the plates are by Thomas Rowlandson, "Numbers 1, 3, 8, 10-13 and 16" and of these only the frontispiece carries his signature. Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone.
