First edition, first printing. Publisher's original pictorial boards and red cloth spine. Illustrated in black by G. A. Stevens throughout. An excellent better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing to the board edges and minor fraying at the spine tips. The contents with offsetting to the first and last page, and with the occasional light finger mark to the margins are otherwise clean throughout. Scarce in this condition
A creative volume of First World War propaganda manipulating well-known British nursery rhymes, each accompanied with a cartoon and bordered with copious line drawings. Dedicated "To the children of all British heroes, whether on land or sea". A considerable number of the rhymes focus on the Kaiser and the drubbing the British soldiers are going to inflict on him.
