Early reprint of the 1943 first edition. Publisher's pictorial paper covered boards with a navy cloth spine. Illustrated on every page with fluid, lively colour illustrations that are characteristic of the era. Unusually, all of the text is printed hand lettering. A very good copy, the binding firm, with some wear to the extremities, the bottom corner of the upper board slightly split, and faint spotting to the boards. The contents are clean throughout.
An attractive picture book about a family of trains published a couple of years before the first appearance of the Reverend Awdry's Thomas The Tank Engine. The author-artist Peter Thornhill was also a naval officer, this is his first of several children's picture books written throughout the 1940s.
