Second edition. Publisher's original paper-covered boards with title label to the spine. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece by Henry Corbould. All edges untrimmed. A very good copy, the binding secure with a little cracking to the front inner-hinge, wear and loss to the spine, and minor rubbing to the extremities. The contents with a paper label bearing a numeral in pencil to the front pastedown and the occasional splash mark or dot of foxing are otherwise in good order. Scarce in the original boards.

One of the more well-known stories by this Scottish children's author, set during the Jacobite rising of 1745. Provenance: From the library of Martin Stone.
