THE MISCHIEF MAKER

First US edition, first printing. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering and ruling to spine and front panel, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean, except for a small previous owner's stamp in blue ink to front and rear pastedowns, and another small red stamp (the letters GBB enclosed in a circle) to the rear free endpaper. The page block edges are a little dusty and toned, with a handful of light spots. Minor pushing and light rubbing to spine tips. In the age-toned, rubbed and nicked original dustwrapper, showing a little loss to the upper spine tip, a 1 cm deep chip to the upper edge of the front panel, and closed tears to lower fold edges. The flap folds themselves have been secured with a number of small bits of tape from the reverse (it isn't clear if the flaps were completely detached before these repairs). The previous owner has also used his ink stamp to the front panel of the dustwrapper. Correctly priced $1.35 net to the front flap. Scarce with the original dustwrapper.

"Mr Oppenheim here returns to the type of story that has achieved for him his greatest popularity—a blending of love, romance, and diplomatic intrigue." (from the jacket). (Hubin).
