Early printing of the 1907 first Millicent Sowerby edition. Publisher's original blue cloth with circular pictorial onlay and borders in blind to the upper panel, titles in gilt to the upper panel and spine. With 12 full page colour plates, an illustrated title page and chapter headings throughout by Millicent Sowerby. An excellent very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth clean with only light rubbing to the extremities. The contents are entirely complete and without loose or torn pages or previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. With a few light foxing spots to the page margins otherwise clean and bright throughout. All of the colour plates are present where called for and in fine condition. An attractive example of this beautifully illustrated Alice.
Millicent Sowerby was among the earliest women to illustrate Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland, and the first to have any illustrations for Alice published in colour, in book form.
