HANSEL & GRETHEL, & Other Tales.

First edition thus. Publisher's original navy-blue cloth with gilt illustrations and titles to the upper board and spine. Illustrated with 20 tipped-in colour plates and 28 black and white drawings in-text. Small contemporary bookseller's ticket to the front pastedown ("C.W. Lindströms Bokhandel, Lund [Sweden]"). A lovely near fine copy, the binding square, firm and bright with a small bump to the top corner of the lower board and a hint of pushing to the spine ends. The contents with a little toning to the first and last pages are otherwise wonderfully clean and bright throughout and remain free from any previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. An excellent copy.

The first separate edition of these classic tales with Rackham's atmospheric illustrations, originally forming part of his earlier celebrated edition of "Grimm's Fairy Tales" (1909). In addition to the story of 'Hansel and Grethel', it also includes 'Rapunzel', 'Red Riding Hood', 'Rumpelstiltskin' and 'Tom Thumb', amongst many others.
