RIP VAN WINKLE

First edition with Rackham illustrations. Recently bound by Stephen Conway in full green morocco, the upper and lower boards with gilt decorative corner pieces, titles in gilt on lighter green morocco labels to the spine. All edges gilt. Hand sewn headbands. Illustrated with 50 tipped in colour plates by Arthur Rackham, each with a captioned tissue guard. Housed in a purpose made marbled card slipcase. A lovely copy, the binding square and firm without wear or fading. The contents spotted to the margins of the prelims, as often, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. All 50 of the illustrations are present as called for and in fine condition.

A beautifully presented first edition of the first of Arthur Rackham's popular Christmas gift books leading into the Golden Age of book illustration.
