Publisher's original navy cloth and matching bound in ribbon, with silver titles to the spine and upper board alongside silver illustrations on each volume. Silver top edge. Navy card slipcase with three fold out maps and panorama. Fold out map to the rear of 'South'. All housed within a blue and white speckled cloth box, with silver titles to a navy card label. Illustrated throughout the text with black and white photographs and illustrations in both volumes, with 14 colour plates in 'The Heart of the Antarctic'. A fine set, the bindings square and firm, with bright gilt and clean cloth that is without fading. The contents are clean throughout, in the fine box.

Published to commemorate the centenary of Ernest Shackleton's death and was the first time both 'The Heart of the Antarctic' and 'South' were published together. Includes the complete texts from the first editions alongside photographs, drawings and maps, with an exclusive introduction by Alexandra Shackleton, the explorer's granddaughter.
