First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original grey paper covered boards with label printed in blue and red to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Illustrated in colour throughout with Hockney's etchings, accompanied by Stevens' poems. A near fine clean, square and firm copy, the contents clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a couple of short closed tears at the folds. Not price-clipped (£5.50 to the front flap).

Inscribed by the artist in black ink on the title page "For Alan, David Hockney". The recipient Alan Toff (1934-2023) was a British born Canadian who after studying at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London joined the School of Continuing Studies at The University of Toronto where he taught visual arts for over thirty years. The Alan Toff Annual Art Lecture was established in his honour.
