First edition, first printing. Three volumes. Signed by the author. Association copies. Original blue cloth with silver titles to the spines, in dustwrappers. Illustrated with black and white maps. Each volume is in very good or better condition, the binding square and firm, the extremities faintly rubbed and bumped, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with a little faint spotting to the end papers and top edge of the closed text-block are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrappers, 'Facing the Dictators' with a few very short closed tears to the edges, 'The Reckoning' with two slightly longer tears, some associated creasing and a small chip to the upper corner of the rear flap fold. Not price-clipped (35s; 42s; 42s net to the lower front flaps).
Each volume is an inscribed presentation copy from Anthony Eden to his editor (and chief editor at Cassell) Kenneth Parker in blue ink on the front flyleaf. 'Full Circle' is inscribed "Kenneth Parker / from / Anthony Eden / with gratitude / February 1960". 'Facing the Dictators' is inscribed "To / Kenneth Parker / with much gratitude / from / Avon / October 1962". 'The Reckoning' is inscribed "To Kenneth Parker / with gratitude / from / Avon / March 1965". The complete autobiography of the former Conservative Prime Minister Anthony Eden, documenting the years following his appointment as Minister for the Foreign Office in 1931, during which he held meetings with Hitler and Mussolini in an attempt to navigate the dawning of fascism; through to the war years in which he served as Secretary of State for War, Secretary of State and Leader of the House of Commons and was a member of the War Cabinet and the Defence Committee in Churchill's government; and finally the post-war years in which he served as Churchill's Foreign Secretary before becoming Prime Minister in 1955, a position he held until 1957, a period which would become defined by the Suez Crisis.
