First edition. Publisher's original quarter roan over printed paper-covered boards. Illustrated with 12 engravings across 6 plates (complete). A good copy, the binding firm with rubbing and marking to the boards and wear to the extremities. The contents starting slightly in a couple of places, and with a contemporary owner's inscription to the front pastedown and spotting to plates and page edges, are otherwise in good order.
An account of Indian life, customs and beliefs, which also discusses the extension of British power in the region. Designed as an educational work for a young audience, it includes many exciting anecdotes and is enlivened with a wonderful series of illustrative engravings.
