First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Publisher's original dark blue cloth with black titles to the upper board and spine, in the H. L. Shindler illustrated dustwrapper. Complete with the rubbed and nicked pictorial dustwrapper that has several small chips and tears but remains bright with little in the way of loss. Correctly priced 6/- to the spine. A scarce title in dustwrapper.
Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the front endpaper "May 16. 21 / To my little charming friend / Charlotte / from the author / Lindsay Johnson". The British born author, an ophthalmologist, fluent linguist, inventor and pioneer of colour photography emigrated to South Africa in 1911. He developed a deep interest in parapsychology and spiritualism and wrote extensively on the wide variety of subjects he was involved in. This, his only published novel, is based around a series of seances involving phantoms, romance and a Monte Carlo gambling coup. (Bleiler; Reginald 07925).
