First edition with these illustrations, first printing. Publisher's original light green cloth, illustrated and with titles in gilt and brown, to the upper board and spine. Top edge gilt. Illustrated endpapers, 16 colour plates (tipped onto captioned card), and line drawings as chapter headings and tail pieces throughout by A. E. Jackson. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with some bumping to the spine tips, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh. The contents, with a short closed tear to the top edge of the front endpaper, and very minor spotting to the prelims are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. The page block is a little shaken but holding firm. All of the colour plates are in fine condition. An attractive example.
