First edition, first printing of the author's first novel. Publisher's original beige cloth with red titles and border to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the contents with a neat ink ownership inscription to the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which remains without loss or large tears. Not price-clipped (8s 6d net to the front flap).

The basis for the 1949 film of the same name starring Norman Wooland, Sarah Churchill and Cyril Cusack.
