BARNABY RUDGE; A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty'.

First separate edition, first state. Nineteenth century half green pebble grain morocco, marbled paper covered boards. Five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and titles in gilt to the spine. All edges marbled. Illustrated with engraved illustrations within the text by H. K. Browne and George Cattermole. An attractive example, the binding square and firm with some rubbing at the extremities and slight fading of the spine. The contents with a previous owner's name to the blank reverse of the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout.

The first separate publication of Barnaby Rudge, published on December 15th 1841, extracted and bound from the first edition of Master Humphrey's Clock. This copy confirms to all of the earliest state points identified in Smith. (Smith, part 1: 6b)
