First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Hardcover issue. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents, with a small pen mark to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the faintly marked original dustwrapper that remains without fading, loss or tears.
Inscribed by the Australian poet in black ink on the title page "For James Booth, with best / wishes - Les Murray". The recipient James Booth, former Professor of English at the University of Hull, biographer, editor and former colleague of Philip Larkin, has added the date (presumably of presentation) in pencil below the inscription.
