Early edition (the first John Hamilton edition), previously published in the UK by Grant Richards in 1920. Original red cloth with black titles to the spine and upper board, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, with some fading to the spine and extremities. The contents, with spotting to the text block edges and prelims, are otherwise clean and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the near fine lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that is a little dustmarked and has a couple of very short closed tears.

The author died shortly after writing this motor racing thriller when the car he was driving lost a front tyre and crashed near his home in Los Angeles. (Hubin).
