First edition, first printing. Original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in black and white by Anna Zinkeisen. A very good copy, the binding firm with slight bumping to the spine tips and corners. The contents, with a bookplate to the endpaper and light spotting to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and spotted dustwrapper which is a little darkened to the spine. Not price-clipped (8s. 6d. on the front flap).
A story about the chain of events sparked by a young girl in WWII England receiving a beautiful dress in the post from her American godmother. Later published in America under the title 'Party Shoes' to link it to the popularity of 'Ballet Shoes', a treatment given to a number of Streatfeild's novels.
