THE ARTHUR RACKHAM FAIRY BOOK: A Book of Old Favourites with New Illustrations.

First trade edition, first printing. Publisher's original brown cloth with illustration and titles in black and grey to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with eight full page colour plates and 60 black and white drawings throughout the text by Arthur Rackham. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little softening at the spine tips, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with a charming gift inscription the the front blank "With much love to Ratty / from Toady / Christmas 1933", and minor spotting to the endpapers and the odd page margin, are otherwise clean throughout. The text block edges are a little spotted. Complete with the very good, rubbed and nicked, price-clipped dustwrapper that has several closed tears and small chips at the spine tips and fold corners (not affecting the text or illustrations). An attractive example.

This collection of classic fairy tales, wonderfully illustrated by Arthur Rackham includes: Hop-O'-My-Thumb; Dick Whittington; Jack and the Beanstalk; Beauty and the Beast; Henny-Penny; The Story of Sinbad the Sailor; Jack the Giant Killer; The Ugly Duckling; The Princess and the Pea; Blue Beard; The Story of Aladdin, or the Wonderful Lamp.; The Sleeping Beauty; The Barmecide's Feast; Toads and Diamonds; The Three Bears; Ali Baba; Cinderella; Puss in Boots; The Emperor's New Clothes; Rip Van Winkle; Little Red Riding Hood; Hansel and Grethel; What the Old Man Does is Always Right.
