First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by the author to Daphne du Maurier. Publisher's original navy-blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with two black and white photographs. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a hint of fading to the bottom edge of the upper board and bumping to the bottom corners. The contents with some light scattered foxing to the preliminary pages and edges of the textblock are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. Complete with the very good lightly spotted dustwrapper which has a little wear to the spine ends. Not price-clipped.
Signed and inscribed by Victor Gollancz to Daphne du Maurier in blue ink to the front free endpaper "Dear Daphne / with fondest love / VG". A nice association copy of the publisher Victor Gollancz's powerful critique of the development and use of nuclear weapons, warmly presented to one of his best-selling authors, Daphne du Maurier.
