THE METAMORPHOSES OF PUBLIUS OVIDIUS NASO Translated by the Most Eminent Hands. A Selection from the 1717 Edition.

Limited edition, number 189 of 200 copies printed. Bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. Quarter brown morocco over brown cloth boards with gilt vignette of a female centaur to the upper board and titles in gilt to the spine. In original brown cloth slipcase. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Illustrated with title page vignette and 10 full page black and white drawings by J. Yunge Bateman. A particularly fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean and bright throughout. The slipcase with a few minor marks is otherwise in very good order. A most attractive example.

A sumptuously produced edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses, illustrated with a series of semi-erotic drawings by J. Yunge Bateman, and printed at the Chiswick Press in Calson's Old Face type on Millbourn mould-made paper. An appealing variant binding, far superior to the red cloth of the standard issue (nos.76-200) but differing from the smaller limitation full morocco version that was accompanied by an additional suite of plates (nos.1-75).
