Early edition. 12mo. Handsome contemporary full black calf, the boards ruled in gilt, the spine with five raised bands, compartments ruled in gilt and with titles in gilt. Marbling to page edges. Marbled endpapers. Engraved portrait frontispiece and additional engraved title page. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing to the extremities and cracking to the hinge between the final page of the preface and p.1 of the text. The contents with a previous owner's ink inscription dated 1904 to the front endpaper, a small area of slight abrasion to the right-hand side of the frontispiece, and the occasional spot of light foxing are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout.
