A TYPOGRAPHICAL COMMONPLACE BOOK

First edition, first printing. Limited to 628 copies, this copy being out of series. In an unbound state, the leaves held together with cord. The book shows no signs of ever being bound with a covering, and was likely retained by the publisher. Filled with a wide range of quotations utilising very attractive, creative typography, design, and page composition. A very good copy, the pages that effectively act as the book's cover very slightly grubby to the edges, the contents clean and bright throughout and without stamps or inscriptions.

This lovely book was designed by Monroe Wheeler, the cofounder of the small press Harrisons of Paris who later worked for many years at New York's Museum of Modern Art, becoming the museum's first director of exhibitions. Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone.
