First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's yellow cloth with gilt titles and illustration to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated in colour throughout by Phillida Gili. An excellent near fine copy, the binding firm, the spine rolled and the cloth clean. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the original pictorial dustwrapper which whilst without loss has a couple of short closed tears to the upper panel and a few nicks at the spine tips. Signed and dated 1977 by John Betjeman in black ink on the front endpaper. The story of a bear called Archibald Ormsby Gore, written by Betjeman for his family when they lived at Uffington, Berkshire under the shadow of the White Horse.
