First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the J. Faczynski designed dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt sharp and bright, the contents clean throughout. A few light spots to upper and fore-edges of the page block. The dustwrapper, rubbed and nicked to corners and spine tips (upper tip folds neatly reinforced with tape to the verso), the spine a little faded, with a touch of soiling to the rear panel, is otherwise bright and sharp. Not price-clipped (12s 6d net to the front flap). Scarce signed.

Signed by the author in black ink to the title page. Watson's first book, the first of the Flaxborough Chronicles, and one of the four Flaxborough novels to be adapted for the 1977 BBC television series, 'Murder Most English', starring Anton Rogers and Christopher Timothy, and directed by Ronald Wilson.
