First edition, bound from the parts. Later half calf over marbled boards, with five raised bands, gilt titles on red morocco labels to the spine. All edges marbled. Illustrated with a frontispiece, title page vignette and 38 full page plates by Halbot K. Browne. With the eight line errata leaf (mentioning 6 errors) and the twelve line errata slip. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with minor rubbing to the extremities and mild fading of the spine. The contents are spotted to the plates particularly, the frontispiece and illustrated title page but are otherwise clean throughout.
Dombey and Son originally appeared in 20 numbers, bound in 19 monthly parts between October 1846 and April 1848. The novel was first published in book form on April 12, 1848. (Smith, Part 1: 8)
