First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with silver titles to the spine, in the A. E. Barlow illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping at the spine tips, the cloth fresh. The contents with a small inscription to the front pastedown dated October 1946 are otherwise clean throughout. Possibly a binding variant as the text block starts at the half title, although this could quite easily be the case in all copies (we have not catalogued this title before to be able to compare). Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper that remains bright and with a few small nicks at the extremities. Not price-clipped (9/6 net to the front flap). An attractive example of a scarce title.

A Superintendent Mallett novel. (Hubin).
