First edition, first printing. Publisher's original orange cloth with black titles to the spine. Lacking the dustwrapper. An near fine copy, the binding firm with a little bumping at the spine tips, the cloth clean and fresh with just a touch of fading to the spine and board edges. The contents, with some spotting to the endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example.

The true first edition of this classic locked room mystery. Although dated 1939 on the copyright page, the UK edition was released for sale on the 19th December 1938. The American publication under the title "Murder for Christmas" followed in February 1939. (Hubin; Wagstaff & Poole).
