A near fine set, the bindings square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Light spotting to the upper edge of Vol. I, and a couple of light marks to lower edges. Complete with the near fine dustwrappers showing a little light shelfwear, one short closed tear to the upper edge of Vol. II, and a touch of fading to the spine of Vol. III, both of which have a thin strip of reinforcement to the underside at the upper and lower edge. All volumes are unclipped and priced to front flaps. A very presentable example of an unusually scarce set.

First published in France by the Institut Littéraire between 1976 and 1978, this first edition in English, translated by P. S. Falla, was published by the Oxford University Press in 1978. Due to his criticism of Marxism and Communism, Ko akowski was effectively exiled from Poland in 1968. He spent most of the remainder of his career at All Souls College in Oxford.
