ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF IVAN DENISOVICH

First edition in English. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm. The contents, with the faint indentation of an erased inscription on the front free endpaper, a little light offsetting to the prelims and very slight spotting to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper which is a little toned at the folds and has a short closed tear at the head of the spine. Not price-clipped (18s net to the front flap).

The author's first book, a short novel about a single day in the life of a man serving a long sentence in a camp in the Soviet Gulag system. The basis for the 1970 film of the same name starring Tom Courtenay.
