First edition, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth with titles and illustration in orange to the upper board and spine, in the Benjamin Minns illustrated dustwrapper. Top edge green. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 21 black and white photographs taken by the author. Folding map. An excellent very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, lightly spotted to the closed text block edge and a bookseller's paper label to the bottom edge of the rear pastedown, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the bright and crisp dustwrapper and wraparound band (as issued) that remains without loss or tears but is somewhat faded to the spine. Not price-clipped (8s 6d net to the front flap). A lovely copy, uncommon thus.
The British adventurer and travel writer Peter Fleming's second book, a day-by-day account of his trip from London to Moscow and the Trans-Siberian Railway, through Japanese-run Manchukuo, and on to the Chinese capital Nanking.
