"Pour Finir Encore": First edition, first printing. Original card wrappers. A near fine copy, tight and square, the spine uncreased, the contents clean and without marks or inscriptions. The wraps show some barely visible surface marking and a superficial half-centimetre crease to the lower edge of the front panel. "For To End Yet Again": Original copper cloth with gilt lettering to the spine, in dustwrapper. A fine copy, tight, square and sharp, without marks or inscriptions. The dust wrapper is equally fine, unfaded and unclipped. Correctly priced (£3.50) to the front flap. A lovely copy. "Foirades / Fizzles": Original card wrappers, sewn with black thread. Containing French and English versions of Beckett's "Old Earth" and reproductions of three etchings by Johns. This eight-page folio was issued to announce the publication of a larger book containing five Beckett texts along with thirty-three etchings. A fine copy, without marks or inscriptions. A nice opportunity to obtain fine first editions of both original French and the author's own English versions of these wonderfully concentrated late works.
Written between 1960 and 1976, all but one of these short texts ("foirades" or "fizzles", to use the author's terms) were originally written in French and then translated into English by the author; both versions were issued the same year, as were the extended series of etchings by Jasper Johns.
