First edition, first printing. Original orange cloth with gilt lettering to the spine, in the dustwrapper designed by Joan Wanklyn, who also provides the illustrations within. Illustrated map endpapers. Unfaded orange topstain to the upper page block edge. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean and without inscriptions or stamps. Minimal pushing to spine tips. In the bright dustwrapper, rubbed and nicked to spine tips. There is a (nearly) closed tear with associated creasing (c. 2.5cm) to the lower edge of the rear flap fold; there is also a closed tear (1.5cm) and a small triangular area of loss to the upper edge of the front panel (c. 1 x 1cm at its widest and deepest). An attractive copy.
