A excellent near fine set, the bindings square and firm, the contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Both volumes have a touch of fading to the spine. Complete with the lightly creased dustwrapper which is free from loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£13.95 to the front flap). Housed in the structurally sound slipcase, which has some light marks to the extremities.
Issued in a 'Collector's edition' of 250 copies of which this example is numbered 169 and signed by Gene Wolfe in black ink on the limitation page. There was also a signed trade edition of 1000 copies issued without the additional poetry volume 'For Rosemary', or a slipcase. A further 26 copies were quarter bound in leather and reserved for private distribution. A collection of 35 short stories, of which 'In the Old Hotel' is published here for the first time. Winner of the 1989 World Fantasy Award for best collection.
