First edition, first printing. Original maroon cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. A near fine copy, sharp, tight and square, the contents clean, without marks or inscriptions. The dustwrapper is clean and bright with a number of small nicks and tears to extremities and a narrow (half-centimetre at it's deepest), horizontal, three inch wide patch of loss to the top of the rear panel. Not price-clipped and correctly priced (18s net) to the front flap. A nice copy.

Though she lived until 1982, this play was the final work that Barnes published during her lifetime. The author is best known for the novel "Nightwood" (1936), published by Faber and Faber at the behest of T. S. Eliot (who wrote an introduction to the 1937 edition). Eliot also acted as editor for the novel and, later, for "The Antiphon". The correspondence between Barnes and Eliot is held at the University of Maryland.
