A story of post-war society in Paris and London, dedicated to Evelyn Waugh. "Grace Allingham, good, beautiful and rather stupid, makes a hasty war-time marriage with Charles-Edouard de Valhubert. When he comes back from the war and takes her home to Provence her married life begins and so do her troubles" (from the jacket).
