THE BUTTERFLY BALL AND THE GRASSHOPPER'S FEAST

First edition, first printing. Signed by the illustrator Alan Aldridge. Original laminated illustrated boards. Issued without a dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in colour by Aldridge. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the spine tips lightly rubbed and the laminate separated in a thin strip on each spine hinge. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps.

Inscribed by Alan Aldridge in blue ink on the flyleaf "For Timothy / Happy Days / Ahead / Best Wishes / from / A R Aldridge / DEC 1973 [underlined]". A wonderful book of verse written by William Plomer, loosely based on William Roscoe's poem of the same name, featuring an eccentric host of insects and small mammals as they prepare to go to a ball, lavishly illustrated by Aldridge. There are nature notes by Richard Fitter at the rear, which give a little information on each of the species featured in the book.
