First edition, first printing. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with silver titles to the spine. Lacking the rare dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little bumping at the spine tips, the cloth, a little faded to the spine is otherwise bright and fresh. The contents, heavily spotted to the prelims and closed text block edge are free from inscriptions or stamps.
One of two Agatha Christie first editions to be published as a 'Collins Mystery' rather than in their 'The Crime Club' series. A collection of twelve short stories (for which there was no equivalent American publication) of which the best known are 'Accident' which was reprinted in several later crime collections, and 'Philomel Cottage' which was subsequently adapted by the actor and playwright Frank Vosper into the play "Love From A Stranger", and filmed in 1937 starring Basil Rathbone and Ann Harding. (Hubin; Wagstaff and Poole [p.96]).
