First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original burgandy cloth and gilt titles to the spine, with the dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in black and white. A near fine copy, the binding tight and square, with a slight bow to the front board, the contents clean throughout and free from inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper, that has two tiny closed tears to the bottom of the front panel and is otherwise free from fading or loss. Not price clipped (£20.00 to the front flap).

Signed by Roy Strong in black ink to the title page. Memoir of Roy Strong who was director of both National Portrait Gallery (1967 - 1973) and Victoria & Albert Museum (1973 - 1987), whilst later working as a broadcaster, writer, garden expert and historian. He was awarded the Shakespeare Prize in 1980 and The Royal Photographic Society's President's Medal and Honorary Fellowship in 2003, for his contribution to the arts.
