First edition, first printing. Original red cloth with gilt lettering to the spine, in the dustwrapper designed by Geoffrey Whittam, who also provides the illustrations within. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean and without inscriptions or stamps. Page block edges very lightly spotted, lower edge untrimmed. The gilt to the spine is tarnished. Minor pushing to spine tips. In the dustwrapper, rubbed to edges and extremities (most notably to spine tips which show some minor loss), with three closed tears to edges (the deepest, c. 1.5cm, triangular). There are small traces of tape adhesive to the front pastedown and the outer edge of front flap. Not price clipped (8s. 6d. net to the front flap).
